A store mannequin is a hard shell made to show clothes. An adult doll gives you soft silicone skin over a jointed metal skeleton, and that is how XYcolo builds its 150–171 cm dolls.

Mannequin vs sex doll: two objects, two jobs
A mannequin is a figure, often articulated, that tailors, dressmakers, artists and window dressers use to display or fit clothing. The word comes from the Flemish manneken, “little man,” and medicine spells it manikin for the figures used in first aid and CPR training. Everyday English also calls a mannequin a dummy, which is why “sex dummy” and “sex mannequin” are simply other names for an adult doll.
An adult doll is made for companionship and intimacy, so it is built for touch: soft skin, a jointed metal skeleton, human height and real weight. XYcolo works in silicone only and offers bodies from 150 to 171 cm (4 ft 11 in to 5 ft 7 in), either with a head you pick separately or as a one-piece model with the head and body joined. Sizes, silicone grades and prices are collected on the XYcolo Doll Guide home page.
Mannequin vs sex doll, side by side
A display mannequin and an adult doll can share a face and a height. The rest differs, from the surface to the frame, and the doll column uses XYcolo’s published figures.

Skin, frame and weight: what you notice first
You feel the difference the moment you touch one. Today’s mannequins are mostly fiberglass, which looks more lifelike and costs more, or plastic, which is tougher. An XYcolo doll replaces that shell with silicone that gives under your hand and a skeleton that holds a pose.
Skin
XYcolo’s PRO grades add an ultra-soft layer under the outer silicone shell, designed to imitate muscle and fat. The OS grade keeps the body lightest.
Skeleton
Choose an aluminum skeleton with jointed fingers or a steel one with wire fingers that bend into any shape. Both weigh about 4 kg.
Weight
Listed XYcolo weights run from about 23 to 45 kg (51 to 99 lb), depending on height and silicone grade. Lifting, storage and space are covered in full-size dolls.
Finish
Painted makeup, eyes in one of 6 colors and a wig in one of 37 styles, or implanted hair, complete the look. On the OS grade the makeup is permanent.
Mannequins came first by several centuries, and the adult doll later borrowed their name.

Late 1990s

Today
Mannequins are mostly fiberglass or plastic; adult dolls are silicone or TPE on metal skeletons
Older mid-priced dolls kept some of the mannequin in them: thick vinyl, latex or foam-core bodies, sometimes with hard plastic heads of the mannequin type. Those materials are covered in doll materials beyond silicone and TPE. XYcolo’s Chinese-language site still lists its dolls as life-size figures.
“Realistic silicone mannequins”: reading the label
A listing for a “silicone realistic female mannequin” can mean a hard display form with a lifelike face or a soft adult doll sold under a discreet name. Four checks tell you which one you are looking at.
01
Check the material
Fiberglass or plastic means a display form. Silicone or TPE skin means a doll, and for an XYcolo doll, ask the seller to confirm the silicone grade in writing.
02
Look for a skeleton
Dolls list a metal skeleton and joint options; display forms list a stand and removable arms. XYcolo offers aluminum or steel and three levels of joint tightness.
03
Read the weight
A full-size soft doll weighs tens of kilograms. XYcolo lists 23–45 kg, with about 2 kg of that in the head.
04
Ask about shipping
Dolls travel in plain, unmarked boxes, and XYcolo owners report receiving factory photos of their doll for approval before it ships. Since August 2025 every doll shipped to the US goes through formal customs entry, so ask whether duties are included.
If a listing is vague about how the skin is made, 3D printed sex dolls explains how prototypes are printed and doll skin is cast in molds.
Law and ethics: what applies to adult dolls
Dolls that depict adults are legal to own in most countries. Dolls designed to look under 18 are banned in many countries and in several US states, including Florida, Kentucky (2024) and Arizona (2023). The UK prosecutes their import, and Australia, Canada and Germany ban them. This site is about adult dolls only.
In the UK, the 1987 Conegate case included a concession that adult sex dolls were not obscene articles. South Korea allows imports of adult dolls, except those that look underage or resemble a specific real person.
That last rule marks the main ethical line beyond age: a doll modeled on a real person without their consent. Choosing one of XYcolo’s stock heads, 38 by the end of 2023 with three more added in 2025, keeps you clear of it.
Mannequin sex dolls: FAQ
Is a sex mannequin the same as a sex doll?
Yes. “Sex mannequin” is another name for an adult doll, and early full-size silicone dolls were even described as lifelike silicone rubber mannequins. A store mannequin is a hard fiberglass or plastic form for clothes. An XYcolo doll has soft silicone skin over a jointed metal skeleton and weighs about 23–45 kg (51–99 lb).
What is a sex dummy?
Slang for an adult doll. A dummy is an everyday word for a mannequin, as in a tailor’s dummy, and the slang borrows it. The doll itself is soft silicone or TPE on a metal skeleton at human height; XYcolo’s bodies run from 150 to 171 cm (4 ft 11 in to 5 ft 7 in).
Why is an adult doll so much heavier than a mannequin?
Its body is soft silicone or TPE around a metal frame, while a display mannequin is a rigid fiberglass or plastic form. XYcolo lists its dolls at about 23–45 kg (51–99 lb), including a skeleton of about 4 kg. If weight matters, choose XYcolo’s OS grade, the lightest it makes, and store the doll on one of its neck hooks, back holders or stands.
Is it legal to own a mannequin sex doll?
Dolls that depict adults are legal to own in most countries. Dolls designed to look under 18 are banned in many countries and in several US states, and this site is about adult dolls only. Since August 2025 every doll shipped to the US also goes through formal customs entry. Rules change, so treat this as general information, not legal advice.
Are realistic silicone mannequins the same as silicone dolls?
Sometimes. A realistic store mannequin is a hard form with a lifelike face, while some sellers use the same phrase for soft adult dolls. Check the listing: silicone or TPE skin, a metal skeleton and a weight in the tens of kilograms point to a doll; fiberglass, plastic and removable arms point to a display form.
