Fabric, latex, rubber and vinyl dolls cost less or weigh less, and each gives up something in skin, wear or safety. Every XYcolo doll is silicone, so you know exactly what you are buying.

Doll materials beyond silicone and TPE
Most lifelike dolls today are silicone or TPE, but older and cheaper materials still appear in listings under loose names. The table shows what each one is and what to check before you pay. For the bigger picture, see how to judge which doll is best for you.

Check before buying
Inflatable vinyl (PVC)
Welded sheet vinyl, the cheapest segment at under $75

Soft “jelly” PVC
Vinyl softened with plasticizers
Phthalate softeners, up to 70% in some products tested
Latex
Thick latex, once a mid-range material
Allergy to natural latex proteins

Fabric sex dolls: what they are
A fabric sex doll is a sewn cloth body with a soft filling, made much like upholstery. It is light, easy to store and easy to move. The trade-off is the skin: cloth neither looks nor feels like a body.
Silicone weighs more, and XYcolo keeps that in check with its OS grade, the lightest it makes. The 153 cm OS body is listed at 23 kg (51 lb), with skin that carries permanent makeup. This page covers adult-proportioned fabric dolls only.
Rubber and latex sex dolls
Rubber came first: the earliest commercial dolls were French rubber figures of the 1850s. Today “rubber doll” is a casual name for almost any soft doll, so a listing that says rubber may mean TPE, silicone, latex or vinyl. Ask for the exact material. A 2006 Danish government survey found breakdown products of vulcanization accelerators, carbon disulfide and phenol in the rubber products it tested.
Latex sex dolls, made from thick latex, were a mid-range option. They arrive with a zinc oxide coating that you wash off before first use.
Latex itself is inert, but natural latex contains proteins that cause allergy in a small share of people. Synthetic latex does not contain those proteins, so ask which kind a doll uses before you order. With XYcolo the answer is always the same: every model is silicone.
Plastic sex dolls: vinyl, jelly PVC and hard shells
Inflatable dolls are welded vinyl and cost under $75. They bear only a passing resemblance to people and often burst at the seams after a few uses.
Soft “jelly” parts deserve the closest look. The 2006 survey by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency found that jelly adult products were plasticized PVC, with plasticizer content “up to 70%”, mostly phthalates such as DEHP, DNOP and DINP. The survey lists DEHP as harmful to the fetus and to fertility, and it also concludes that most products carry no risk in normal use.
Hard plastic shows up as mannequin-style heads on mid-range dolls. In the same survey, one hard ABS product exceeded the cadmium limit, at 200 ppm against a limit of 75.
Phthalates: what EU and US rules cover
Phthalate limits depend on where a product is sold and who it is made for.
Rule
What it limits
Adult products?
EU, Regulation (EU) 2018/2005
Since July 7, 2020: DEHP, DBP, BBP and DIBP at 0.1% or more by weight of the plasticized material
Yes: it covers consumer articles in general, with exceptions such as industrial goods that don’t touch skin
US, 16 CFR 1307
0.1% for listed phthalates
No: the federal limit does not extend to adult products
Soft PVC and jelly can contain phthalate softeners. The EU limits four of them in consumer products, while US federal limits do not cover adult products. The EU rule counts PVC, polyurethane and any other polymer as plasticized material, except silicone rubber and natural latex coatings. XYcolo makes every doll in silicone, the material that definition leaves out.
What XYcolo silicone gives you
Platinum silicone cures without byproducts and is described as highly inert, biocompatible and hypoallergenic. It is a different material from latex and contains none of the natural latex proteins behind latex allergy.
XYcolo makes every doll in silicone and lets you choose the feel. PS is the entry grade, soft and heavy. OS is lighter and carries permanent makeup. The multi-layer PRO grades add an ultra-soft inner layer that XYcolo says simulates muscle and fat, and since 2026 the brand has promoted a new super-soft silicone, which it said in August 2026 now goes into all its dolls.
On the OS grades the makeup lasts. XYcolo paints its OS PRO bodies with more than ten layers of pigment, and its OS makeup does not come off when wiped with 95% alcohol. One owner on a doll forum described OSP skin as “as close to real skin as anything I have felt on a synthetic doll.” Compare skin, warmth and weight in what a doll feels like.
Silicone has weak points too: low tensile strength and poor wear resistance, so a cut or tear needs a repair that stays visible. In 2020 XYcolo began offering owners a free repair kit, with the buyer paying shipping. Its own store listed full-size dolls from $2,064 on sale in October 2026. See every grade and height in the XYcolo silicone doll range, and put the price in context with what cheaper dolls save and skip.

Fabric sex dolls and other materials: FAQ
What is a fabric sex doll made of?
A sewn cloth body with a soft filling inside. It is light and easy to store but has no lifelike skin. Before buying, ask what the filling is, whether the cover comes off for washing and what any inner parts are made of, since soft PVC parts can contain phthalates.
Is a rubber sex doll the same as a latex doll?
Not necessarily. Rubber dolls date back to the 1850s, but today “rubber” is a casual word for almost any soft doll, including TPE and silicone. Latex is a specific material: once used for mid-range dolls, it arrives with a zinc oxide coating to wash off and can cause allergy in people sensitive to natural latex proteins.
Are plastic or PVC dolls safe?
A 2006 Danish government survey found that most adult products carried no risk in normal use, but soft jelly PVC held up to 70% plasticizers, mostly phthalates. The EU has limited four phthalates in consumer products since July 2020, while US federal limits do not cover adult products. Keep oil-based products away from PVC parts.
Can people with a latex allergy use these dolls?
Latex allergy comes from proteins in natural latex, and a small share of people have it. Synthetic latex does not contain those proteins, and silicone, the only material XYcolo uses, is described as hypoallergenic. If you react to latex, get the exact material in writing from the seller. This is general information, not medical advice.
Does XYcolo make fabric, latex or rubber dolls?
No. Every XYcolo doll is silicone, in grades that run from a basic platinum silicone (PS) to multi-layer PRO and PRO PLUS bodies with a softer inner layer. The OS grades add makeup that lasts. XYcolo’s own store listed full-size dolls from $2,064 on sale in October 2026.
